Neck Pain

Quite a common complaint at our specialist clinic, pain in the neck can occur in individuals of any age and gender. With growing age and weakening bones, the chances obviously increase but even in youngsters of today’s generation, the incidence is not uncommon. Multiple causes and their combination can lead to Neck Pain and it can rarely be indicative of underlying disease.

Signs and symptoms

  • Muscle tightness and spasms
  • Decreased ability in the movement of head
  • Headache
  • Pain may worsen by holding the head in the same position for long periods of time
  • Spreading of pain from the neck, downwards to the arms or legs
  • Numbness
  • Weakness
  • Redness and swelling

  • Muscle strain
  • Bad posture for prolonged periods of time is one of the most common causes of pain in the neck.
  • Worn joints- wear and tear of all joints occurs with age. The body’s response to this is formation of bone spurs which can be cause for pain and discomfort.
  • Nerve compression
  • Arthritis
  • Systemic diseases such as meningitis, cancer etc. have neck pain as an additional symptom.
